Earlier, the word “miss” was used more frequent than the word “ms”. It was only around 1900s that the word “ms” was started to be commonly used. That word was promoted by women’s equality to men’s movement.

“Miss” refers to a woman that is not married yet. It is a shorten form of Mistress. So, whenever we call a woman with this word the definite assumption is that woman is not married yet. While the word “ms” does not denote to its person’s marital status. It is either unknown or unimportant to be implied.

Which ever we use, we should remember that those words are to show respect.

Some students are just not into writing. It seems so difficult for them to put their thoughts and imaginations in words. Inspiring them to write and giving them constant possibility to write are important. Not to forget providing them with new and interesting styles of writing.

Once, my 6 graders read a story of a platypus and they ended up with amazing stories that blend fact and fiction. A story that blend fact and fiction is simply a mixture of fact and fiction. It would be a great combination as students need to know facts and at the same time develop their imagination.

Lets have a look at those amazing stories by the 6 graders without any edition or addition. What an imagination!

Fabulous Pets

Written by : Josephine Valencia, Nathaniel, Claudia, Degoldie Sony, Gifta Gelyana

There was a girl named Gina. She owned a kitten named Kelly and a puppy named Piere. One day, Gina bought a platypus named Peeter. Gina always took care of Peeter and forgot Kelly and Piere. So, they had a plan to get rid of Peeter because they were jealous.

“Hey Kelly! What shall we do to get rid of that ugly platypus?” asked Piere. “Yeah! That old little platypus shall get away. Hmm.. I think I have an idea” answered Kelly.

“What good idea?” asked Piere again.

“I’ve heard that platypus lived in water like creecks, rivers and lakes. Peeter lives in a cage fill with water. How about when Gina leave this house, we get out of this cage and pour the water at Peeter’s cage out so he will die” explained Kelly.

That’s what they’d plan. So, when Gina wanted to went out.. “Take care of yourself when I’m away” said Gina to Peeter. When Gina had leave the house, Piere and Kelly immediately got out of their cage.

“Peeter, I think you don’t need this water. We’ll pour the water out ok!” said Piere.

“Dont Kelly and Piere! I need water to survive” rejected Peeter. “Really?!! I don’t agree with you. I think you better die” said Kelly. They pour the water, but luckily, Peeter jump to an empty aquarium that was filled with water so he was still survive.

Piere whispered to Kelly, “Let’s take the yabbies that lives in the ground where Peeter lives.” They went to Peeter’s cage and took the yabbies. “No! Those are my foods. Please don’t take them!” Piere and Kelly didn’t took any notice to Peeter. They took the yabbies. But then the door opened…..

“Hey Piere and Kelly! What are you doing to those yabbies? They’re the food of Peeter. Put it back!” said Gina angrily. They put the yabbies back. They return to their cage.

“Listen Piere and Kelly, although I bought Peter, I’ll not forget you. Don’t be jealous, ok!” adviced Gina.

Finally, Piere and Kelly realized that they were wrong. They realized that they can’t be jealous. From that time on, they said sorry to Peeter and made friends each other.

Antelope was feeding the grass at night. She heard the rush of the stream, the splashing water and the howling of the wind. Suddenly the rain came, the Royal Antelope ran back home. On her way back home, she stopped. She heard the sound of a whisper. She didn’t know whose sound that was but her instinct said, “Keep on running, there is a danger”.

“Lord Gorilla, I heard the sound of whisper on my way back home. Do you think you need to check it out. For the safety of our friends?” the Royal Antelope reported. “In the dawn, I will. But now, we need to take a rest,” the Lord Gorilla replied.

The cave was where Lord Gorilla, Son Gorilla, the Okapi and the Royal Antelope lived. Lord Gorilla, which had sharp hearning, heard the sound of wailing from the inner room of the cave. Lord Gorilla broke the entrance gate and then, passed the food storage, the labyrinth and lastly, he entered the inner room while Royal Antelope was following him. To a great shock, he saw his son laying on the stone table, hurted and was dying.

Blood came out from a large hole from his chest. The Lord Gorilla concluded that his son was shot. The Lord Gorilla stood up and beat his chest. Then, he asked the Okapi, his loyal servant, “Is there any hunter around here?”

“There are two hunters. In my opinion, both of them ran away but there is a possibility that they are stuck in the labyrinth,” replied the Okapi.

“So what you heard Royal Antelope was a whisper right?” asked Lord Gorilla.

“Well, yes, that’s what I heard”.

“So it’s true! There are hunters around here! Let’s split up! Look for the hunters! You, Okapi and you, Royal Antelope – pointing his fingers to them -, go and find the hunters together while I am alone,” ordered Lord Gorilla.

They could not find the hunter in the labyrinth, so they looked for them – the hunters – in the forest, out of the cave. The Okapi and Royal Antelope saw the hunter, only one. Luckily, the hunter didn’t see them, thanks to Okapi’s stripey legs. The Royal Antelope jumped into a branch above the Okapi’s and gave out loud noises. The Gorilla came out from a bush. He striked the hunter and the hunter’s life ended.

Few hours later, the Okapi, the Royal Antelope and Lord Gorilla went back to the cave to check, to analyse and to decide what to do with the body of Son Gorilla. “Check Son Gorilla’s chest Okapi. See whether there is any clue of waht the hunter had done,” ordered Lord Gorilla.

“Okay,” the Okapi said. The Okapi touched, pressed and looked for any clue using her two front legs. “I can feel his heartbeat.”

“O really? Let me check,” the Lord Gorilla placed his (hand) palm on Son Gorilla’s chest. Then, he believed what Okapi said. “He’s still alive!”
